Retrovolution is here!

Kawasaki is launching a "retrovolution" in 2022 with the Z650RS. This new model allows an even larger number of motorcyclists to ride a motorcycle from the popular Retrosport range. Kawasaki uses all the experience and style-defining design language from the almost 50-year history of the Z.

The Z650RS refers strongly to the Z650-B1, the "little sister" of the 900 Z1, which was introduced in 1977. The Kawasaki design team had to sensitively solve the difficult task of finding a successful mix of contemporary technology and classic look. The result is impressive: Wonderful, how many successful parallels to the historical Z models can be recognized.

The heart of the new Z650RS is the updated liquid-cooled parallel twin with 649 cm3, which is already used in the current models Z650 and Ninja 650. Equipped with an assist and slip clutch, this engine stands for maximum reliability with lively power delivery. Successful races at the TT races on the Isle of Man have proven what this engine is made of. In the case of the Z650RS, the engine is tuned for good response in the lower and mid-speed range without sacrificing power at high speeds. The maximum output is 50.2 kW (68 hp), a conversion to 35 kW (48 hp) for the A2 class is of course possible.

The tubular frame of the Z650RS combines low weight with agile handling characteristics. The narrow design of the frame also allows smaller drivers a secure stand. The seat height is 820 mm, with an optional seat cushion from the Kawasaki original accessories range, this seat height can be reduced to 800 mm.

Front cushioning is provided by a classic 41 mm suspension fork, combined with a horizontal back-link strut at the rear, which is adjustable in the preload. Instead of the typical Kawasaki Petal design, brake letters are used in retro style (front: 300 mm/rear: 200 mm). Double-piston brake calipers at the front and a single-piston brake caliper at the rear ensure superior deceleration performance – monitored by a state-of-the-date Bosch ABS.

The highlight of the Z650RS is undoubtedly the styling. Here, memories of the Z650-B1 are awakened in the older ones, especially in the version in green paint with decorative stripes. Duck rump and shaped side covers are another homage to the 1977 model. The bench seat with its filigree quilted seams also shows the love of the Kawasaki designers for detail.
The round headlight with modern LED technology looks completely like retrovolution, and it delivers a perfect light output. Also a feast for the eyes are the two timelessly beautiful round instruments, which are connected to a digital information panel. The golden multi-spoke rims on the model in Candy Emerald Green are the icing on the cake. Every driver of a Z650RS can also set individual accents with various pieces of jewellery from the Kawasaki original accessories range.

The Z650RS will be available from February 2022 in the following colours:

Metallic Spark Black
Candy Emerald Green
Metallic Moondust Gray/Ebony
