Motorcycle market very weak overall

The IVM's approval figures for May 2025 are in. Things are not looking good for new registrations of motorcycles in Germany. Only 11,583 machines (everything except 125cc and scooters) were registered in May, which is a whopping 21.5 percent fewer than in May 2024.

The decline in registrations at BMW is particularly striking. The market share was still 44 percent in January and has fallen month after month. In May 2025, it is now only 16.84 percent (in Germany). We hope that sales in the other markets will be better, otherwise the alarm bells in Munich should slowly ring.

Things look just as bleak at KTM - for the well-known reasons. The Austrians don't even make it into our chart anymore - instead, Aprilia is now there with an increase of 7.4% compared to the previous year. Business at Kawasaki is also going very well with an increase of 14.5%. Almost all the others are also struggling with sometimes drastic slumps: Harley Davidson, for example, is down 56%.

In the top 50 motorcycles, Honda and Kawasaki are in a good position with a total of seven models. The GS 1300 tsht only just ahead of the retreaded Z900. If things continue like this, Kawa's Streeetfighter will knock the GS off its throne.
