Unsurpassed past, dominant performance

Yamaha's passion for racing is second to none. Since the company was founded in 1955, the Japanese manufacturer has successfully participated in motorcycle races. This was also evident in 2021 with the successes in MotoGP, the FIM Superbike World Championship and the FIM Supersport World Championship. The same applies to numerous national championships.

Yamaha has always invested a lot of energy and resources in racing so that enthusiasts around the world were equipped to pursue their passion – from trackdays to the bLU cRU series to professional world championships. The high-performance R-Series models feature state-of-the-art engine and suspension technologies that first had to prove themselves in Yamaha's factory race bikes. Thanks to this constant transfer of technology from the racetrack to the road, the motorcycles of the R-Series are always up-to-date.

Yamaha wins WorldSSP for fifth consecutive year

Yamaha supports numerous riders and teams in national and international racing series. This is also the case in the Supersport World Championship (WorldSSP). This collaboration between the manufacturer and the drivers was recently rewarded with another title. Swiss Dominique Aegerter of the Ten Kate Yamaha WorldSSP Supported Team won the 2021 Supersport World Championship on his Yamaha R6. This is the fifth consecutive Yamaha to clinch this prestigious title – a testament to the dominance of the new R6, which first competed in 2017.

In 2022, Yamaha will continue to serve supersport riders and teams at every level, bringing two exclusive racing bikes with outstanding performance to the grid with the R6 RACE and the R6 GYTR.

R6 RACE: R/World pure

The Yamaha R6 has dominated WorldSSP for many years. It is the first choice for drivers who really want to win. Given the impressive track record, it is not surprising that the majority of participants in this class opt for the R6 – both in national and international competitions.

The R6 offers thoroughbred racing specifications. The focus is on the powerful 599 cc engine with lightweight forged pistons, titanium valves and a compression ratio of 13.1:1. With the Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) and the Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) as well as an anti-hopping clutch, a tightly stepped 6-speed gearbox and the Quick Shifter (QSS) for lightning-fast upshifts without clutch use at full throttle, the R6 offers an outstanding technology package.

The compact aluminium Deltabox frame is complemented by a magnesium rear frame and an aluminium fuel tank, an R1-like adjustable 43mm KYB upside-down fork and an adjustable KYB strut. The result: precise handling and optimum control in corners. The radially mounted front calipers and the 320 mm brake discs provide enormous deceleration and thus faster lap times.

The 2022 model of the R6 is available in the attractive color Tech Black with gold-colored fork. It is "ready for the track" and comes without the components necessary for road traffic such as headlights, indicators, mirrors, horn, license plate holders, pillion seats and pillion footrests. The weight saved as a result fully benefits racing performance. This bike is not approved for road traffic. Rather, it is an ideal racer for trackday riders, but also a perfect base for racers who want to build a motorcycle individually for racing.

R6 GYTR: Ultimate Supersport Racing Bike

In order to further consolidate the national and international dominance of the R6, the new R6 GITR will be available for 2022. It is sold exclusively through GYTR PRO SHOPS. The R6 GYTR is aimed at a wide range of customers - from hobby racing drivers to licensed drivers. But it is also the first choice for particularly demanding trackday riders who want to further increase the potential of their motorcycle with engine and suspension components as well as other parts from the GYTR range.

The R6 GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) comes with numerous racing components from the GYTR range, such as an interface programmable Superstock ECU for optimizing engine performance and a racing wiring harness.

The lightweight, performance-enhancing Akrapovič titanium racing exhaust system has a maximum of 100 dB. Covers for the air intake system (AIS) allow the removal of various hoses and components in the intake area. Racing sprockets and a special 520 chain are just as much a part of the equipment as high-quality steel flex brake lines for better braking performance and more precise feedback. The GYTR ABS emulator allows you to expand the ABS system. Side effect: It saves weight again. Thanks to GYTR racing humps and adjustable, recessed footpegs, the driver can take the ideal racing posture. The circuit diagram can be reversed. The engine is started simply by pressing the start/stop switch. Thanks to the GYTR special fuel cap, you don't need any keys.

The R6 GYTR comes with a lightweight, white primed, carbon fiber reinforced GRP cladding. Other parts prescribed by the FIM are also included, such as the handbrake lever guard and the rear sprocket guard.

The R6 GYTR is sold exclusively through Yamaha GYTR PRO SHOPS, the main point of contact for professional and amateur racers. All GYTR PRO SHOPS are run by people for whom motorcycle racing is a matter of the heart and who are themselves active in racing. In addition, these specially qualified companies are in direct contact with the Yamaha Road Racing Technical Service, the European organisation supporting WorldSBK, WorldSSP and EWC, so the shops have the necessary know-how and competence to prepare an individual racing bike at the highest level.

There are currently five GYTR PRO SHOPS throughout Europe. In 2022, the network is to be expanded with further shops.
