Honda CBF 1000

Honda CBF 1000 | Test (Baujahr 2008)

If the path is the destination

Our test machine from 2008 is more than ten years old, with around 60,000 kilometres of the total. Is there still life in it? This is what our test is supposed to find out.

Older, but well together

Oh, who would have thought that? Eleven years old, but she's still in good place, our Honda. Of course, she has scrapes and scratches, but she is not rocked on the outside. The machine, which used to cost 9,900 euros, is now expected to cost 3,700 euros at Moto Fun Kaltenkirchen.

A year's warranty is included as well as a top case, which is good for a tourer. Because this is the Honda CBF 1000, just a bit of sport is included. By the way, the Honda was a market success, it was built for five years (2006 to 2011).

It is therefore still quite free of electronic helpers like adjustable landing gears. However, an ABS is installed. Pure motorcycling awaits the new owner. Which one gets a lot of motorcycle for his 3,700, because the Honda is a big bike. With a length of 2.15 meters, it is not only long, but at 245 kilos quite heavy. Manoeuvring is not subject to entertainment tax here.

Quite low, but heavy

Then let's climb the control center. This is surprisingly easy, as the well-formed and comfortable bench has a seat height of only 795 millimeters. In theory, it is therefore suitable for smaller people, but you should always keep the 245 kilos in mind. When it comes to loading, even more powerfully built bikers need not worry, because with 200 extra kilos, the overload is far away.

The view falls on an analog cockpit. Actually, there are many followers of this traditional construction, but for the CBF 1000 numerous plastic trees have been felled in Japan to produce this mass. Japanese cars from the same period look similarly artificial from the dashboard.

Even instruments, switches and all mechanical parts do not look like 11 years of hard use. Here, the typical Honda quality is visible and palpable.

When driving too? Because let's go.

Rather tourer than sport

She is supposed to be a sports tourer according to her self-image, but that only works if you change from the Honda Goldwing. Otherwise, the sporty part of the driving pleasure is rather manageable and is mainly provided by the engine. The 989 cubic centimetre four-cylinder engine produces 98 hp and pulls the Honda forward beautifully. The comparatively fat torque of 96 Newton meters is more significant.

The CBF pushes beautifully from below, which ensures a silky-smooth driving style by itself. Turbine-like is its sound. So: No rocket, the CBF doesn't want to be that. For this, it always measures long curves safely and with the comfort offered. The tighter the curve, the more it tweaks. Handiness is not so their domain, and their fullness of body is also in the way of it.

The overall operating forces are slightly higher than with modern bikes. This starts with the clutch lever and yes, you have to push it a little bit into the curve. For this, the windscreen is fine and is suitable for long distances. The 60,000 kilometres of this specimen have certainly not come together in urban traffic.

Conclusion - it continues

Children as time passes. Barely eleven years old and you can sort a motorcycle in good conscience into the non-existent category "Classic Sports Tourer". In the 0-100 km/h test she turned around nicely at the back, modern bikers are no longer used to the absence of a traction control.

Here you still drive yourself beautifully. If you are looking for something like this, you can strike here. The Honda CBF 1000 comes with fresh inspection and also the wear parts are not yet ... Well, yes... Worn. Thanks to the quality, it should bring joy to its new owner for a long time to come.
