Strong decline in motorcycle sales in July 22 compared to the previous year

Motorrad Neuzulassungen Juli 2022

Minus 22 percent compared to July 2021!

In July 2022, the motorcycle market in Germany suffered a strong decline compared to the previous year. Exactly 21.9 percent fewer motorcycles (everything except 125cc and scooters) were registered this month, in absolute terms this is 10,394 machines.

The reason for the decline is not a lack of willingness to buy among customers, but the lack of availability of new motorcycles due to the corona crisis. Our dealers regularly confirm this: they could sell significantly more machines if only they existed.

Our data provider - the IVM - has changed its statistics and now it is finally much easier to see the sales figures for the individual month. Therefore, we are now switching this news from cumulative figures to absolute figures of one month. The market shares (see chart) therefore refer only to July, and there are therefore strong shifts here. BMW still leads in terms of market share in Germany, but in July it was just under 17 percent. This is followed by Kawasaki, Harley-Davidson (!) and Honda, followed by KTM, Yamaha and Ducati.

In the top 50 motorcycles sold, there is a big surprise: The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is in 5th place! Otherwise everything as always: GS at the top followed by the naked bike evergreens Z900 and MT-07. In between, however, the Ténéré 700 from Yamaha - a real success for the Japanese.
