Honda Fireblade now at the Red Dot Design Museum

The new Honda e and the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP have been included in the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, one of the most important collections of contemporary design. The CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP won the Red Dot Award in the motorcycle category.

The design award was established in 1955 and renamed the Red Dot Design Award in 1992. It is regarded worldwide as a seal of quality for good design. Each year, around 18,000 proposals from more than 70 countries are submitted in the three categories "Product Design", "Brands & Communication Design" and "Design Concept". In addition to its location in Essen, the Red Dot Design Museum operates two other museums in Singapore and Xiamen.

The CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP, which won the Red Dot Award 2020 in the motorcycle category, is the latest racing machine with the legendary name "Fireblade". For the new 2020 model, which was developed under the motto "Born to Race", Honda has consistently focused on racetrack performance and a radically new design. In addition to assessing functionality and design, the Red Dot judges also put the performance of the Superbike through its paces for several days.

In their evaluation, the jury praised the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP for its racing-inspired design, balanced lines and aerodynamic styling. The judges also appreciated the driving pleasure and the outstanding driving performance. The minimalist front area, the angled side panels and the extended lower bow panel – as well as a variety of air ducts – together ensure a first-class drag coefficient. Aerodynamic "winglets", such as those used in the Honda Grand Prix (MotoGP) RC213V racing machine, combine an eye-catching design with uncompromising function: they greatly increase downforce and stability, giving the rider ultimate control over the most powerful four-cylinder in-line engine Honda has ever built.

The Red Dot Design Museum houses the world's largest exhibition of modern design. It is located in the former boiler house of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zeche Zollverein. This year's winners of the Red Dot Award for product design – including the Honda e and the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP – will be presented in the two special exhibitions "Milestones in Contemporary Design" and "Design on Stage".
