The best excuses of toll sinners

Erich Westendarp / pixelio.de Over Easter, thousands of German motorcyclists will be on holiday in Austria or will cross our neighbouring country south. Many want to save themselves the cost of the vignette. Of the approximately 190,000 toll offenders in 2018, around 80,000 vehicles came from Germany. That's more than 40 percent.

Anyone caught doing so will have to pay a replacement toll of up to 240 euros. Regularly, motorcyclists pay 35.50 euros for the whole year, 13.40 euros for 2 months and 5.30 euros for 10 days.

Drivers are therefore not embarrassed when it comes to excuses. The argument that the dog had caught the vignette and bit it was particularly absurd. The most common excuses include:

  1. Didn't know about the vignette obligation in Austria
  2. I thought that vignette-free until the first exit
  3. Didn't know where to buy a vignette
  4. Didn't know that you would get a replacement vignette in the event of a windscreen break
  5. This is not my car
  6. Have bought a digital vignette, no idea why it is not in the system now
  7. The Navi has sucked me onto the highway
  8. Vignette is in the wife's handbag
  9. Must be rushed to hospital
  10. No sales point found
