With victories in the categories "Sportsman", "Enduro/Supermoto" and "Crossover" as well as four second and two third places, BMW Motorrad once again produced an impressive result in the 21st reader's choice of the magazine MOTORRAD for "Motorcycle of the Year 2019", to which a total of 222 motorcycle models faced the vote of 47,407 readers in Germany.
The new S 1000 RR was ranked number one in the "Sport" category. With 22.1% readership, she left behind the strong competition from Italy and the Far East. The participating MOTORRAD readers thus paid tribute to the rr, which has been improved in all disciplines, which will now be even more uncompromising, even lighter, thanks to BMW ShiftCam technology and even more manageable in the 2019 edition and even more manageable from June onwards.
In the "Crossover" category, the BMW S 1000 XR again dominated this hard-fought motorcycle segment in the 2019 readers' election with 20.4% of the vote. With its fascinating mix of sporty driving dynamics, outstanding sports touring qualities and individual design, it once again ranked first in the rankings in the favour of readers.
The new R 1250 GS together with its sister model R 1250 GS Adventure achieved another and clear class victory in the category "Enduro/Supermoto". A convincing 23.5% of the reader's votes confirm that these two new GS models with their extensively developed boxer engine with the BMW ShiftCam technology define the measure of things in their segment.
The popular BMW Tours models R 1250 RS and R 1250 RTnarrowly missed the class victory this year. However, the R 1250 RS came in a strong second place with 22.2% of the reader's votes, followed by the R 1250 RT in third place. Both models with their excellent all-round qualities in terms of driving dynamics and touring suitability thus confirm their important role and high acceptance in the category "Tourer/Sporttourer".
The BMW R nineT took another second place in the "Modern Classics" category. 17.0% of the electorate convinced here of the incomparable mixture of classically casual design, state-of-the-art technology and sporty driving dynamics.
The BMW G 310 R/GS models competed for the first time in the "beginners" category and were voted directly into second place by readers. A great result for these two handy all-rounders from BMW Motorrad.
The award ceremony took place on 11 March 2019 in Stuttgart. In the 21st edition of the "Motorcycle of the Year" election, which is considered to be the most important motorcycle and scooter reader choice in Europe, 47,407 readers took part this time in Germany alone.
